There is a certain level of arrogance on display in the world. I’m not talking about the common people here, people like you and me. Here I am talking about our “leaders,” the visible ones holding the scepters of corporate and government power, and the invisible ones pulling the strings behind the scenes. Despite an increasingly desperate climate crisis, despite the obvious dangers of letting Covid rip through the population, despite clear signals that the planet is in trouble, they continue to play their ideological games of control while blissfully pretending to themselves and the world that we can continue to go on as “business as usual.” They are doing exactly the opposite of what needs to be done to save this planet and its people, just so they can rake in their profits.
At this point, it should be clear to anybody paying attention that they (the elites) are not going to change. They are arrogant and addicted and it is quite clear they are prepared to sacrifice as many lives as they need to in order to ensure their power and privilege continues. It seems absurd, but it is really just an outcome of their indoctrination They are taking this approach because they believe they are somehow above it all. They believe they are special and chosen. They believe they are genetically superior. They believe that what they are doing (grow, grow, grow the economy more and more every year) is divinely sanctioned. They are so arrogant, they are sure that as long as they are control, things are going to work out. They don’t think they can do anything wrong because they are ones going to save the world.
And when mass homelessness strikes developed nations, when global starvation hits even the comfortable middle classes, when one hundred million or more (probably more) have died of Covid and 30% of the planet is disabled by Long Covid, it isn’t going to affect them (so they think) because they have private islands and bunkers filled with food and fuel reserves. They are not stupid. They know what’s coming. But mass unrest is not going to be a problem, so they think, because they own the police and the military. And besides, by now they have the entire world organized into opposing camps of “left” versus “right,” Christian versus Muslim, communist versus capitalist, and so on; and you know what they are going to do. When the shit hits the fan, they will sit phat in their palace and encourage the the people (that’s you) to kill each other. Why wouldn’t they do this? They have been using that tired old “good versus evil” trope to eliminate threats ever since the Persian emperor Aradashir hijacked Zoroastrianism almost 2,000 years ago.
Call me an alarmist if you want, but I don’t think it will be too long now before the carefully choreographed marketing delusion of normal begins to crumble and the “fucking catastrophe” brought about by the oligarchs begins to hit home for everybody, including them. As they are going to shortly realize, they are not above it all. Despite their Darwinian/”divine” pretensions to the contrary, they are going to feel the consequences of their actions.
Sadly, unfortunately, there is nothing any of us can do to stop it now. Even if the world suddenly turned seriously to ending Covid, even if we stopped burning fossil fuels right now, even if everybody decided to go vegan like right now, even if our corporate own “news” networks stopped serving puerile ideology and started serving news and insight, it is already too late. The damage is done. But that’s a moot point anyway because as the elites have made clear, and as we will see quite shortly, they’ll go to war, drop nuclear bombs, and kill children just to preserve their status quo.
I wish we brought better news, but we don’t. All we can say is, the unfolding occurring now was not inevitable. It could have been avoided. It could have been stopped, not by you and me because we’re relatively powerless, but by the elites themselves. They had an opportunity at the beginning of Covid to change the world, but they did not. Instead, they chose “business as usual.” Instead, they chose to push us all back to their exploitative, toxic “normal.” And now, thanks to their willingness to sacrifice billions, we are all going to pay the price.
Sad to say, but all we can do now is watch the world burn, wait for the ashes to cool, and prepare. We can prepare ourselves to get through it. We can prepare ourselves to pick up the pieces. We can prepare ourselves and our children to build a better world so that when the floods and the fires and the disease and the violence and hatred and the war finally and forever recede, we can finally have the freedom to build a better world, just like we came here to do.
